Lesson Twelve
New Testament Worship
XII. Prayer Part 4
1) Why would you (or not) consider prayer to be worship? Job 21:15; Luke 11:13; Heb 4:16; Js. 4:3
“entreat Him” “ask Him” “draw near”
Again, we need only to remember that worship is offering from a humble heart ourselves to God. In going to God in (Scriptural) prayer, we're telling God that we know He is our Creator, Provider, God… that we need Him!
2) Is this limited to “the first day of the week”? 1 Thes. 5:17
We should always be thanking, praising, asking our God!
3) Remember when Jesus taught His disciples how to pray? Look at this prayer Matt. 6:9f and 1 Tim. 2:1,2. What are the different elements of prayer?
A) Praise Acts 2:4
B) Thanks Col 4:2
C) Confess 1 Jn. 1:
D) Requests Philp. 4:6
E) Intercession 1 Tim 2:1,2
F) Praise Matt. 6:13
NOTE: Praise and thanks are entirely different! Praise never thinks of 'self'. Thanks does.
4) What should our attitude be in prayer? James 1:5-8; 4:3 Luke 18:1-14
Realizing that God gives generously, without doubting, unselfish motives, not losing heart, humbly. These are attitudes that the Christian have when coming to God!
5) What hinders our prayers? Isa. 59:1,2; 1Peter 3:7; Matt 6:15
SIN- A MAN NOT LOVING HIS WIFE-NOT FORGIVING OTHERS
(it's still sin!)
6) Does God hear our prayers? Jn 9:31; 1 Jn 5:14
1 Jn. 5:14 tells us that God hears and answers, but Jn. 9:31 (Isa. 59:1,2) says that God doesn't hear sinners. (1 Peter 3:7) In order to come before God with the above expectations from prayer, one must become a “child of God” so that He is Father.
7) How much time do you spend in prayer?
MINUTES-OR HOURS?
